Chateau Langoa Barton, 2009

St Julien, 3rd Growth Classification

*** 91/100 The Wine Advocate ***
*** 16.5/20 Jancis Robinson ***
*** 90-93 Wine Spectator ***

The Wine Advocate - The medium to deep garnet colored 2009 Langoa Barton is scented of warm red and black plums, dried mulberries and blackcurrant cordial with touches of dried mint and new leather. Medium to full-bodied with a solid frame of grainy tannins and bold freshness, it has loads of red and black berry preserves layers on the long, savory finish.
Lisa Perrotti-Brown - 14/03/2019

Jancis - Mid crimson with quite a pale rim. Pretty light – early picked? There’s a nice freshness and neatness to this but it’s overall a bit dry and grainy.

Chateau Mouton Rothschild , 2009

Pauillac 1er Grand Cru Classe

The wine has a very deep, almost black colour. The stylish and complex nose displays aromas of bilberry, blackcurrant and blonde tobacco that mingle with subtle cedarwood and spice notes. The same refinement and density are to be found on the palate with patrician, well-rounded tannins, revealing remarkable structure and balance right through to the long and opulent finish. A great success for a Mouton Rothschild that will undoubtedly get the utmost out of the exceptional qualities for which the 2009 vintage has already been hailed.

Tasting notes
The Wine Advocate - "The 2009 Mouton Rothschild has a striking label from Anish Kapoor.

Chateau Pichon-Longueville, Baron, 2009

Pauillac 2eme Cru Classe

The 2009 Pichon-Baron just exudes gorgeous ripe, damson and mulberry fruit which blends seamlessly with the fantastic silky, supple, fine-grained tannins. The wonderful thing about this wine is its sense of coolness, incredible given that the blend comprises 33% Merlot which was often very hot in 2009 (the remainder being 67% Cabernet Sauvignon). Christian Seely attributes this to the wonderful terroir of the best Merlot plots around the château, the ones right next to Ch. Latour. This is elegance personified; a truly great wine.

Chateau Pontet Canet, 2009

Pauillac 5me Cru Classe

**** 100 points Jeb Dunnuck ***
The 2009 Pontet-Canet continues to just knock it out of the park every time I’ve been lucky enough to drink a bottle, and this beauty was as good as it gets yet again. Deep purple-colored, full-bodied, beautifully concentrated, and just about off the charts in terms of scale and density, it nevertheless just glides across the palate with an ethereal, seamless texture that never seems heavy or cumbersome. This is pure Pauillac in all its glory and is a monumental wine in every way. Drink it any time over the coming 4-5 decades. (10/2018)

Chateau Rieussec, 2009

Sauternes 1er Cru Classe - Presented in a dark mocha leather effect gift box

***97 Points by Neil Martin -eRobertParker.com #205 Feb 2013***

The team at Chateau Rieussec have conjured a stellar wine in 2009. There is a little reduction at first that fortunately blows away, revealing thickly layered scents of honey, Danish pastry and quince that appear to gain vigor with every passing sip. The palate is stunning: very viscous in the mouth with tangy grapefruit, honey and white peach. It is still primal, but the acidity is perfectly judged and there is a life-affirming sense of precision and tension towards the finish. Exceptional. Drink now-2045.

Chateau Yquem, 2009

Sauternes 1er Cru Classe

100 Points Neil martin
Served from an ex-chateau bottle. The 2009 Chateau d'Yquem is one showstopper of a wine and perhaps it is only in a vertical that you realize this is up there among the legendary wines of the past - the 2001 included. It has a wonderful nose that expresses the Semillon component majestically: heady aromas of lemon curd, nectarine, jasmine and honeysuckle that all gain momentum in the glass. The oak is supremely well-integrated. The palate is extremely well-balanced with an unctuous entry. You are immediately knocked sideways by the palpable weight and volume in the mouth, which is almost ""bulbous,"" with layer upon layer of heavily botrytized fruit.

Faugeres, 2009

"La Maison Jaune", Domaine J.M. Alquier

The Faugères soil is dominated by grey schist, friable schist apparently, if that is not oxymoronic. The resulting wines, where vines are old and yields are low, as here, can be rich, savoury and take on complex gamey notes with maturity. Located just to the north-east of Beziers, Faugères deserves more attention.

The significance of the eponymous yellow house 'Maison Jaune' is not entirely clear. What is clear is that their 'Maison Jaune' is a prestige cuvée, made up of 80% old vine Grenache and aged for 14 months in barriqus, 10% of which are new.
