Haut Medoc, Cru Bourgeois

On the nose this is full of crème de mûres and violets with a background note of graphite and cedar. The palate is well-defined yet plump with ripe tannins, freshness and a great concentration of black and red fruits. A drinking wine which could easily be confused for Cru Classé.

*** 16/20 - Jancis Robinson ***
67% Cabernet Sauvignon, 25% Merlot, 8% Petit Verdot. Cedary, leafy nose. Savoury and quite linear on the palate but not thin or lacking fruit, just quite a taut and restrained style. Fresh finish. (JH)
In 1895, Jacques Mondon, a lawyer in Pauillac, acquired several vineyards in the parish of Cissac-Medoc. He combined these different vineyards under the name of Chateau Cissac. In 1940 Louis Vialard inherited the property from his grandparents Mondon and he set about the task of restoring the vineyards and the outbuildings as well as the family home.

Ch. du Tertre’s 2009 is a fantastic gem of a wine and one of the best ever made. With forward, fruity, fresh red and black fruit aromas, this has wonderful concentration with layers of creamy blackberries rolling across the palate, super-silky tannins and a mocha hint at the finish adding complexity. This is destined to be a lovely drinking wine in a few years’ time.

*** 97 Points - Robert Parker ***
A blend of 63% Cabernet Sauvignon and 37% Merlot, it displays an inky/blue/purple color as well as a big, sweet nose of creme de cassis, forest floor, licorice, lead pencil, cedar and subtle barrique smells. Viscous and full-bodied, it is the most concentrated and broadest example of this cuvee I have tasted in over three decades. It will be ready to drink in 5-7 years and should last for three decades or more. Consumers looking to maximize value should be checking out Duhart Milon, as this may be the single smartest purchase in this great and historic vintage!

From the outstanding 2009 vintage the 2009 Grand Puy Ducasse has consistently garnered excellent ratings from critics
93 Points Robert Parker.
Aromas of blackberries, unsmoked cigar tobacco and cedar/sagebrush jump from the glass of this dense purple-hued Pauillac. Full-bodied with more depth and richness than usual as well as moderate tannins, this potential sleeper of the vintage offers 15-20 years of aging potential. Moreover, it is modestly priced. Purchasers should give it 4-5 years of cellaring and enjoy it over the following two decades. Drink: 2016 - 2036

The Wine Advocate - The medium to deep garnet colored 2009 Langoa Barton is scented of warm red and black plums, dried mulberries and blackcurrant cordial with touches of dried mint and new leather. Medium to full-bodied with a solid frame of grainy tannins and bold freshness, it has loads of red and black berry preserves layers on the long, savory finish.

Jancis - Mid crimson with quite a pale rim. Pretty light – early picked? There’s a nice freshness and neatness to this but it’s overall a bit dry and grainy.

Pauillac 1er Grand Cru Classe
The wine has a very deep, almost black colour. The stylish and complex nose displays aromas of bilberry, blackcurrant and blonde tobacco that mingle with subtle cedarwood and spice notes. The same refinement and density are to be found on the palate with patrician, well-rounded tannins, revealing remarkable structure and balance right through to the long and opulent finish. A great success for a Mouton Rothschild that will undoubtedly get the utmost out of the exceptional qualities for which the 2009 vintage has already been hailed.
The Wine Advocate - "The 2009 Mouton Rothschild has a striking label from Anish Kapoor.

Pauillac 2eme Cru Classe
The 2009 Pichon-Baron just exudes gorgeous ripe, damson and mulberry fruit which blends seamlessly with the fantastic silky, supple, fine-grained tannins. The wonderful thing about this wine is its sense of coolness, incredible given that the blend comprises 33% Merlot which was often very hot in 2009 (the remainder being 67% Cabernet Sauvignon). Christian Seely attributes this to the wonderful terroir of the best Merlot plots around the château, the ones right next to Ch. Latour. This is elegance personified; a truly great wine.

***97 Points by Neil Martin -eRobertParker.com #205 Feb 2013***
The team at Chateau Rieussec have conjured a stellar wine in 2009. There is a little reduction at first that fortunately blows away, revealing thickly layered scents of honey, Danish pastry and quince that appear to gain vigor with every passing sip. The palate is stunning: very viscous in the mouth with tangy grapefruit, honey and white peach. It is still primal, but the acidity is perfectly judged and there is a life-affirming sense of precision and tension towards the finish. Exceptional. Drink now-2045.

Served from an ex-chateau bottle. The 2009 Chateau d'Yquem is one showstopper of a wine and perhaps it is only in a vertical that you realize this is up there among the legendary wines of the past - the 2001 included. It has a wonderful nose that expresses the Semillon component majestically: heady aromas of lemon curd, nectarine, jasmine and honeysuckle that all gain momentum in the glass. The oak is supremely well-integrated. The palate is extremely well-balanced with an unctuous entry. You are immediately knocked sideways by the palpable weight and volume in the mouth, which is almost ""bulbous,"" with layer upon layer of heavily botrytized fruit.
