Markedly rich and rolling style, with soft fruit cake aromas, dried spices and peanut brittle. Crushed almonds coat the smooth red and black fruits on the palate, which finishes textural and warm.
Nice rich colour. Good viscosity, quite sweet, medium bodied. Not much in terms of complexity, but a nice nose/palate of roasted nuts & raisin. Everything else in balance.
Winemaking:
This port is made from old vines, being submitted to a careful ageing process in small oak casks.

Casa Ferreirinha Reserva Especial
The world class 2009 Casa Ferreirinha Especial is only the 17th edition of Reserva Especial since its was first released in 1960. Reserva Especial is an iconic Douro red wine. Only released by Casa Ferreirinha in years where, after ageing, bottling and regular tasting and consideration, it is finally not deemed to be a Barca Velha (Portugal’s most iconic and expensive red wine) by Casa Ferreirinha’s Chief Winemaker Luís Sottomayor.
Intensely coloured, almost opaque. Its delightful aroma is equally intense, reminiscent of very ripe red fruits and black plums. Cinnamon and clove spice, with balsamic, cedar and tobacco box are also evident, allied with very well integrated notes from barrel ageing.

"Outstanding! This is also notably ripe yet more elegant as the touch of minerality adds to the sense of refinement and it continues onto the rich, detailed and delicious medium-bodied flavors that possess good phenolic maturity to the supporting tannins on the solidly long finale. This is really quite pretty. " 2011

"The greatest Cantenac Brown I have ever tasted, this monumental effort possesses enormous concentration, with loads of black and blue fruits intermixed with damp earth and forest floor. I have never seen a Cantenac Brown so seamless, so powerful, yet at the same time, so elegant and densely complex. They have certainly done something here that has not been accomplished over the last three decades I have been tasting this estate’s wines. Opaque purple in color and full-bodied, this big-time sleeper of the vintage merits serious attention for the first time in my professional career.

Medoc, Cru bourgeois
MAGNUM 150cl
*** 16/20 - Jancis Robinson ***
Tasting Note
67% Cabernet Sauvignon, 25% Merlot, 8% Petit Verdot. Cedary, leafy nose. Savoury and quite linear on the palate but not thin or lacking fruit, just quite a taut and restrained style. Fresh finish. (JH)
In 1895, Jacques Mondon, a lawyer in Pauillac, acquired several vineyards in the parish of Cissac-Medoc. He combined these different vineyards under the name of Chateau Cissac. In 1940 Louis Vialard inherited the property from his grandparents Mondon and he set about the task of restoring the vineyards and the outbuildings as well as the family home.

Ch. du Tertre’s 2009 is a fantastic gem of a wine and one of the best ever made. With forward, fruity, fresh red and black fruit aromas, this has wonderful concentration with layers of creamy blackberries rolling across the palate, super-silky tannins and a mocha hint at the finish adding complexity. This is destined to be a lovely drinking wine in a few years’ time.

The Wine Advocate - The medium to deep garnet colored 2009 Langoa Barton is scented of warm red and black plums, dried mulberries and blackcurrant cordial with touches of dried mint and new leather. Medium to full-bodied with a solid frame of grainy tannins and bold freshness, it has loads of red and black berry preserves layers on the long, savory finish.

Jancis - Mid crimson with quite a pale rim. Pretty light – early picked? There’s a nice freshness and neatness to this but it’s overall a bit dry and grainy.
